LeBron Raymone James was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio. LeBron's mother, Gloria was a single working class mother who was trying to make ends meet by working different low-paying job after another to provide food, clothing, and shelter for her and her young son. The family was forced to move a multitude of times due to Gloria sometimes being unable to pay the rent. Growing up in an impoverished environment and seeing his mother struggle so much had a profound impact on young LeBron because this strife made him long to find an outlet from the stress. That outlet would be basketball. From an early age LeBron showed an uncanny knack, awareness, and skill set for basketball that set him apart from other players. James is an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Nicknamed "King James", he was a three-time "Mr. Basketball" of Ohio in high school, and was highly promoted in the national media as a future NBA superstar while a sophomore at St. Vincent – St. Mary High School. He was selected with the number one pick in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Listed as a small forward, James has set numerous youngest player records since joining the league. In 2010, a much-publicized free agency process ended with James signing with the Miami Heat.
